Dental hygiene is not only about the health of our teeth, but also about protecting our bodies. A routine procedure can do more than you might think.
Although most of the bacteria found in our mouths are harmless, their excessive proliferation increases the risk of certain diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, stroke, and premature birth.
If we are healthy and our body’s general protective functions are working well, and we routinely take care of our teeth by brushing them two or three times a day, the acid-producing bacteria in our mouths, which play an important role in breaking down food, cannot cause much harm. However, if we do not remove plaque from our teeth and the small gaps between them, the bacteria will multiply and cause tooth decay. This process can lead to the easier appearance and proliferation of other pathogenic bacterial strains, which can cause gum inflammation and periodontal disease, which are unfortunately considered widespread diseases in our country and affect 50 percent of the population to some extent.

During periodontal disease, active bacteria travel through the bloodstream to distant and deeper parts of our body. Scientific research shows that bacteria found in our mouths can be linked to heart attacks, endocarditis, strokes, pneumonia, and premature births.
Not only does the health of our mouth affect our overall health, but the reverse is also true. Certain diseases seriously affect the condition of our gums and teeth. These include osteoporosis, which often leads to tooth loss, and diabetes, which increases the risk of developing periodontal disease.
In addition, poor dental health can also have a negative impact on our mental health. A beautiful smile is a natural expression of confidence and success, which is almost indispensable in today’s society, where visual appearance is highly valued. It is no coincidence that wearing braces or undergoing other cosmetic dental treatments, such as teeth whitening, is becoming increasingly common among adults. An “inappropriate smile” can be a disadvantage in various social interactions, such as in private life or even in the labor market.
Throughout history, as is still the case today, perfect and healthy teeth have been the privilege of the upper classes. The WHO emphasizes that the populations of developing countries are particularly affected by dental diseases, which have an impact on almost every aspect of their lives. Children’s oral health is of particular concern, as chronic toothache or gum disease prevents them from eating properly (chewing and tasting food), speaking, sleeping, and attending school, and also affects their general well-being, which can make it difficult for them to integrate into society.
Protecting our teeth, regular dental care, and dental check-ups can be extremely important for maintaining our overall health. The emphasis is primarily on prevention rather than treatment. By thoroughly brushing our teeth, using fluoride toothpaste and dental floss (not only for crowded teeth), we can properly remove plaque and prevent the proliferation of acid-producing bacteria.
We cannot emphasize enough how much discomfort an annual dental visit with simple dental hygiene treatment can spare our patients. We call this routine procedure a “preventive strike,” and we can say without exaggeration that it can indeed be a strike against many problems.
The dentists and dental hygienists working at our clinic in Újbuda are committed to prevention. They do everything they can to keep your teeth healthy in the long term. One of the most popular and successful ways to do this is to visit our dental clinic at least every six months for a preventive check-up, and it is worth combining these regular dental check-ups with oral hygiene treatment, i.e., tartar removal.
As a result, not only will your teeth look better with the removal of discoloration and tartar, but this quick, simple, and painless treatment can also prevent more serious dental problems from developing.

We have five reasons why you should regularly attend oral hygiene treatments, i.e., tartar removal, at our clinic in Újbuda:
Plaque is a bacterial film that forms on the surface of teeth. Plaque is caused by eating.
Certain foods and drinks discolor our teeth with the help of accumulated plaque, forming a yellowish-brown layer on them.
Tartar is calcified plaque. Its formation threatens the health of your teeth, because if it is not removed in time, it can cause tooth decay and gum inflammation.
Unfortunately, neither deposits, discoloration, nor tartar can be removed using home methods; this can only be done in a dental office.
In half an hour, a dental hygienist or dentist will remove tartar and yellowish-brown discoloration using a special procedure called ultrasonic tartar removal. This gentle procedure is sometimes equivalent to teeth whitening, as your teeth regain their natural color and vibrant shine.
Tartar removal is a simple routine procedure that we perform regularly and successfully in our clinic. The process consists of the following steps:
Tartar removal begins with a thorough examination, during which your dentist will assess the current condition of your teeth and determine the extent of tartar buildup since your last treatment.
This is followed by the removal of tartar and discoloration using a special ultrasonic device called a depurator. This device gently but effectively removes deposits without causing any damage to the tooth enamel. The intense vibrating motion of the device creates air bubbles, which cause the tartar to crumble and fall off the teeth.
During this treatment, a mixture of water and a very fine dental salt specially designed for this purpose is sprayed onto the surface of your teeth at high pressure using a salt spray device. This procedure allows the salt to penetrate even hard-to-reach interdental spaces and gently remove discoloration. The remaining salt is then rinsed out of the mouth.
As a final step, we polish the surface of your teeth with a polishing paste, special brushes, and rubber cups. This procedure prevents plaque from re-adhering to your teeth. Polishing makes your teeth silky smooth and full of life.
